Today we have a CLASSIC Lebanese dish, perfect for any time of the day & any occasion: Balela! Growing up in Lebanon, Balela was served almost every breakfast and loaded the family up with the proper nutrients for the rest of the day (Fiber, Protein, Molybdenum, Sulfur Compounds, Antioxidants, Olec Acid and much, much, more!)
Before you start make sure your chickpeas are cooked, if you dont know the process, check out this guide.
LEBANESE BALELA:
Serves 7
7 Cups of Cooked chickpeas
One teaspoon of Himalayan Salt
4 Oz of Lemon juice
2 Oz of Eezo's Garlic Paste
1 teaspoon of ground cumin
Extra Virgin Olive Oil to taste
Step 1) Place your cooked chickpeas in a large bowl, add Eezo's Garlic Paste, and the Himalayan Salt.
Step 2) Lightly use a masher (for mashed potatoes) until all chickpeas have been slightly broken, afterwards add your lemon juice.
Step 3) Mix all your ingredients very well, you want to make sure everything is evenly distributed.
Step 4) You can either keep the Balela in a large serving bowl or portion them out to separate plates, whatever the occasion calls for.
Step 5) Garnish the Balela with EVOO, to your liking (the more the better!. Afterward sprinkle the cumin on each plate or over the whole bowl. We personally love/recommend to add chopped onion, sliced tomato, and herbs (Mint, basil, oregano, ect.)
Hope you guys love this delicious and healthy meal, let us know what you think and send us photos to jkhalife@eezoskitchen.com, we love seeing you guys eating healthy and good!
